Visit to Manipal
Experience…..
To get a feel of manipal I walked down the main institutes in near vicinity.
The campuses are divided into two: the health and science which has all the medical, pharmaceutical, nursing, dental and science colleges. And secondly the technical college and misc which has technical, management, commerce, jewellery colleges and communication.
I decided to first see the health science colleges.
I visited the Kasturba medical college. Morning hour is the time to rush to the classes. I visited inside the campus and spent an hour to see how the students work. I saw that there was too much interaction amongst the students there were groups and mainly they would discuss about studies only. There was little fun in it. After interacting with students I came to know that this was because of the load of syllabus. But the best part was that there was too much unity amongst the students. The campus life was too much studious.
Later I thought to see their hostel life. This to my surprise was different from the campus life. I could see students playing sports such as football, basket ball, cricket, and swimming. When interacting with them that how do they feel in the sports field they all said it feels great as this de-stresses them. They have regular cricket matches between different departments and students cheer their respective departments. I could also see for the first time mixed cricket match between girls and boys.
I then visited the hostel life and their messes (the food courts) and canteen in the evening. The food courts are in the centre location and in the time of dinner you could see huge crowd of senior and junior students dine. That was the time when I saw the students in deep conversation with their peers, laughing out, cracking jokes. And the place was so crowded that you could barely hear them. I interacted with few students there to know about the life how they feel. Basically they were freshers and have spent 5 months in the campus. To them the life was cool except the studies. Doesn’t hang out as there is no time!.I guess a senior medical student gets time to enjoy the life in the campus along with the studies.
I visited the market near the medical college in the evening. I could see the students shopping for their daily needs. There was crowd near the stationary shop, and the medical instruments shop. That is the place of hangout for the students. There was also a free checkup camp organized by KMC students daily. In this camp they check weight, height, BP and minor tests.
The campus has a very lively atmosphere with student’s activities all over though related to their studies. But enjoying in that.
I visited heritage village. And I had discussed with the Manger about history of village.

I then visited the technology college to get a feel of the other side of manipal which has management, jewellery, communication colleges. The strength of students was too high in the engineering college (MIT). There were many hangout places, extracurricular activities happening. The life in this campus was more fun loving and happening visited the canteen in the MIT. And interacted with students here to know about their life in manipal. They said that due to the crowd and high strength life is more fun. Compared to the medical colleges they can take time out for extracurricular activities. The interaction with students is through various clubs to which most of them are members. the main clubs are:
MAFIA (music and fine arts club)
 30 years old club
 Organizes largest number of events related to dance and music
 Conducts street plays, documentaries
 Conducts fashion shows, rock bands (already have 15 rock bands)
AANIA (dramatic club)
 Conducts dramas
 Street plays, centre stages, mimicries etc
REDEX (adventure club)
 It has various sub clubs like:
 Adventure
 Disha: social cause, free education, distribution of free food, books in under privileged
 V8: flying machine automobiles
 IQ society: designing games
ROTRAQ
 Again doing social causes.
It was a sight to see so many students taking active part in these clubs, I visited the food courts in the evening where there were stalls of all these clubs. Each club had a stall and a banner along with live presentation of what the club does. Like the MAFIA club had a live music on , the REDEX club had a live games presentation on the screen. The representative to make the students join their club. I met the president of the MAFIA club and found out about all these clubs. Most of the students are the members of the club they are interested in. since the exams were just over the activities of the club were at prime.
I visited the food court of MIT. The food court was huge than the medical food court and had large number of students. Outside there was basket ball court where there were students playing serious basketball.

I interacted with students here to know about the life in manipal to which they said:
 Rules are lax
 Environment is all students so lively
 No outsiders other than students only student community
 Very safe even for girls
 Less rules but disciplined
 No timings restrictions
 Strict in attendance so can’t skip classes
 Highest strength than any other institute
 Always crowded due to the strength
 Hostel life is very comfortable and good
 More of cosmo culture due to students coming from various parts of country.
 Amount of activities is more than any other institute
 Interaction with students is more because of various workshops and clubs
 UNITY is an issue unlike the medical students may be due to strength
 No bike zone only in this campus.
 For fun they try different options such as:
 Beach is close KAUP beach and malpe beach just 10-15 km
 Night life is good because of few pubs and discs: Blue water, enigma, edge, sky launch
 Goa is just 5 hours
 Kerala is also near
 Plan excursions to jogfalls, coorg, chikmanglur, agumbe, mysore etc.
 Favourite joints such as:
 DEE TEE, Dollops, China Valley, Basil, Saibai etc
Thus I found that students here have more fun life , they try out different options outside manipal and explore nearby places. They are also engaged in various other activities like clubs and workshops. I like the club idea as they are into social causes also. Very active and lively here
I also visited the college annual festival of the management institute.
